“Celebrity”: Who is this nowadays?

How do you define “celebrity”? Is it the girl with thousands of likes on Instagram, the guy who is always invited to parties in the Hills, or the millionaire movie actor?

Well–there’s two types due to fame in our modern world. The first “celebrity type” had gotten their popularity due to film roles. We as the public are always familiarizing ourselves with their face, personality, and likes/dislikes. We see these celebrities as a role-model, in a sense, as if their success is because of us. We, the fans, are in the debt of their popularity, and love watching them grow as each magazine or movie is posted.

Though, we all practice being a “celebrity”. All the tactics we revolve around on social media and real-life is to gain a popular, well-liked social status. The second type of celebrity is the social media queen/king. They revolve their profile around a particular image, whether it’s being a model, social activist, dog lover, or a lifestyle blogger. Have you ever tried to copy someone who has come on your feed? Maybe the way they posed? Has this particular celebrity ever impacted your travel plans, or who you hang out with?

Celebrities are no longer in a tier system. They come in families, more like popular mob families. They control our way of life, while as well inspiring us–in a sense– to live our life with better morals… or maybe not.

For me, my digital activity revolves around social media powerhouses, particularly those who wear thrifted clothes and write poetry. These type of celebrities attract me to their page because their account feels wholesome and natural–like they aren’t even trying. Their lifestyle is something I want to copy in order to become better and less artificial, but sometimes it feels like I am being artificial rather than realistic for my position.
