First off, what is radio? Is podcasting actually a radio element? Let’s talk about it.
Radio is always contradicted to be purely an audio medium, though podcasting challenges the status of what radio really is. Radio is a evolutionary product that changes in any situation it can be in; the medium has adapted to technological advances for years and years. Podcasting on the other hand was inspired by the radio, though is completely different. For podcasting, you can save episodes, while for radio castings you have to record a certain section of the day. These episodes podcasts have can be themed and become more personal for listeners. For radio, the producer has to find content for the whole day, sometimes even repeating that content. Listeners can’t go back to listen to a certain section during a live broadcast, while for podcasts you can.
In conclusion, podcasts have a specific appeal for listeners that can customize their experience. While for radio, listeners have a certain intrinsic appeal for their radio stations, for example, they can call-in for giveaways while on the way to work. Though, if they’re in a bad service area, listeners won’t be able to listen to their radio stations at ALL.
