Popular Misogyny

Read the article I’m going to vent about here:

When reading this blog post, I realized the main point was popular feminism and misogyny. Honestly, I didn’t understand most of the article posted because it states a lot of terms as if the reader already knows what those terms are. Very little did it explain what specific terms meant. I had to look up a lot of terms due to the professionality of it all.

Why is feminism such a “dirty word” at this point of time?

Though, when the author described why misogyny is still very current in today’s culture, it’s because of social media. In an online world, we are always posting and searching for feedback, comments, or information– and sometimes we need it anonymously. The author describes how “hater’s gonna hate” and if we want to use the internet for our own good, we’re going to have to deal with rough patches– even when we don’t ask for feedback.

The author explains how popular misogyny has evolved from technological advances and the cultural change along with it:

What we need to think through in this moment are the ways in which popular misogyny manifests itself as a normative reaction.

Misogyny has become more and more popular in response to feminism due to the long acts of violence against women becoming normalized. The “patriarchy” takes feminism as a joke, and reacts to it as some sort of plague being brought into our modern society, when really it’s about equality. Are men really that scared of “feminism”? What about the full-disclosure that women still need equality in today’s culture? For example, the Men’s Rights Association Misogyny (which has been around since the 70s), targets feminism right in the chest. The MRA was established to protects “mens equal rights,” though, men are the founding of our country and have taken a stand for all rules that have made the United States it is today. Are these organizations against feminism and misogyny, or for them? Are they just like feminist organizations?

Overall, feminism and misogyny has grown alongside together, though we forget that misogyny is still there, and should be stopped. Maybe due to the hatred of one single gender being supreme, maybe there should be a term to describe how there should be equality for all. Then again, that just runs away from the personal problem of how feminism should not be described as something one-sided, but rather a movement to balance all genders for the betterment of humanity.

Thanks for reading guys!
